Why OakStoke? The Story Behind the Steel.

Posted March 6, 2026

We didn't set out to start a grill company. We set out to fix what was broken about outdoor cooking. Here's what we built, and why it matters.

Why OakStoke? The Story Behind the Steel.

Most grill tools haven't changed in decades. You grab a wire brush, scrub your grate, and hope none of those metal bristles end up in your burger. That's not dramatic. That's just Tuesday, and it's been killing people quietly for years.

That's where OakStoke started.

My dad and I had been cooking outdoors together my whole life. Charcoal, wood fire, cast iron. The kind of cooking that takes time and smells like something worth waiting for. But every season, we kept running into the same frustrations: flimsy tools, sketchy materials, and the wire brush problem nobody wanted to talk about.

So we built something better.

The Bristle-Free Grill Scraper

The OakStoke Skinny Scraper is what started it all. No bristles. No loose metal. Just a solid stainless steel edge that clears your grate without leaving anything behind you didn't put there.

It's not a gimmick. The bristle-free grill scraper category has exploded in the last few years because the ER visits were real, and people started paying attention. We wanted to be the company that took that seriously from day one, not as a feature, but as a baseline.

The Grill Scraper ($19.99) fits standard grill grates. Built from quality steel and designed to last longer than whatever grill you're currently running.

What's Coming This Spring: The 304 Stainless Steel Grill Plates

This is the part we've been working toward.

304 stainless steel is the same grade used in commercial kitchens and surgical equipment. It doesn't rust, it doesn't leach, and it holds heat in a way that changes how food comes off the fire. We're bringing that standard to your backyard.

The OakStoke grill plates are flat, heavy-gauge cooking surfaces that sit over your existing grill grate or drop into our purpose-built stands. They're designed for people who want the control of a griddle with the flavor of live fire. Smash burgers over charcoal. Seared fish without losing half of it through the grate. Vegetables that actually caramelize instead of steaming in a foil packet.

The stands are built to match. Solid, stable, and designed for outdoor use. No wobbly legs, no plastic parts near the heat.

We're launching this spring, and if you want to be first in line, get on the list.

Why 304 and Not 430?

Quick version: 430 stainless is cheaper and more common in grill accessories. It's magnetic, which sounds fine until you realize it also means higher iron content and lower corrosion resistance. 430 will rust faster in outdoor conditions, especially if you're near the coast or leave things exposed.

304 has more nickel and chromium. It's non-magnetic, significantly more corrosion-resistant, and holds up over years of outdoor use the way it should. When you're cooking food on it, material quality matters. We made the call to not cut that corner.

Built to Last

OakStoke is a small operation. My dad and I run it. We weld, we test, we ship. There's no warehouse full of contract-made product. When something goes out with our name on it, we both know exactly what went into it.

If you care about who made your gear and what it's made from, you're in the right place.
