Wait until the grate is warm but not blazing. Best results come when residue is still soft but you can work comfortably without excessive heat exposure.
Hold the scraper firmly. Push or pull across the grate bars with moderate pressure. Short passes on heavy buildup. Let the steel edge do the work.
Run it under hot water or toss it on the top rack. Wipe dry, store with your grill tools. That is the entire maintenance routine.
